Construction gaining momentum in some states

Construction employment is beginning to stabilize in Florida, as the number of jobs inched up 0.8 percent in June from May.

Still, year-over-year construction employment in the Sunshine State was down 7.2 percent, which translates to about 28,000 jobs, according to an analysis of federal employment by Associated General Contractors.

The largest year-over-year increase was in Kansas, where construction employment rose 7.7 percent, or 4,400 jobs. The largest percentage job decrease compared to June 2009 was in Nevada – down 24.4 percent, or 19,500 jobs.

300 Construction Jobs

According to the Orlando Business Journal, Fantasy World Resort in Kissimmee will debut a new $4 million indoor aquatic recreation venue called Fantasy Surf in October.

Fantasy Surf will feature a patented FlowRider system, which is a ramp that shoots water on an incline to simulate waves that allows up to 30 riders per hour to surf, wakeboard or do any other water sports much like at the beach.

Approximately 300 construction jobs will be involved in building the 14,000-square-foot facility, and Fantasy Surf will employ 11 people..
